Why we ask you to financially support the African American Studies Department

Student Support
Your financial gift provides much needed dollars to fund our highest priority - helping bright, well qualified students fulfill their dreams of obtaining a quality degree.

Faculty Research
Your gift allows us to significantly increase support for faculty research, so that they may pursue new ideas, strengthen their teaching expertise and continue the tradition of excellent mentoring in the department.

Reduced State Funding
The state no longer funds the university to the same extent as it used to. Private fund raising has now become an important part of the budgeting process.
